The saying ‘hump day’ has been around for a while. We use it to mark the middle of the week. For many, we start the week full of beans ready to face the world, but come Wednesday, we often feel deflated and unmotivated. If you can relate to this, it’s time to get your mojo back and complete the final few days before the weekend begins. So what is the best way to beat the hump day? To help you refocus, we have come up with some ideas so that hump day is just another good day:
Plan a fun activity
By having something to look forward to will help work not seem so bad. You will have something to focus your attention on rather than feeling stuck in a rut. This doesn’t just need to apply to the weekends. Plan something at work either lunch with your colleagues or even a walk around the shops. A simple activity can help to beat hump day blues so Wednesday no longer feels like the worst day.
You have worked your butt of all week and you’re only half way there. Take time to review what you have completed and think of what tasks take priority next. By ticking things off the list will help you feel like you have achieved something and that there is light at the end of the tunnel. You may realise that you have less work that you thought you had. We also suggest you tidy your workplace. By filing away completed work and throwing away unnecessary items, will help you feel a sense of organisation.
Mix it up
It’s hard to not fall into a routine at work, but try to mix things up. A change of scenery or tasks will help you regain focus and stop you from becoming unproductive. For example meetings or team building exercises offer an escape from your desk and add variation to your week.
If you are feeling sluggish and unproductive, try exercise. Go for a run with colleagues at lunch or book in a gym class to get that body moving. It may be the last thing on your mind, but you will feel so much better for it. And if you feel like hump day is everyday, then it may be time to look for a new role! There comes a point in everyone’s career when we become bored and disconnected from the job for many reasons. If you feel like now is the time for a complete change, then get in touch with us today!
