Can you honestly say that you are completely fulfilled and happy at work? If a recruiter approached you, would you be tempted to find out more or politely decline? LinkedIn recently revealed their Work Satisfaction Survey that gave us insight into who and where the happiest employees can be found.
There are many factors that contribute to happiness at work, but it seems there are certain places with more satisfied employees than others. The survey, which questioned more than 10,000 LinkedIn users globally (3,500 professionals and employers in the UK) and measured their career happiness levels, found that the city with the happiest staff was Brighton – with 48% saying they were ‘very’ or ‘completely’ fulfilled by their jobs. As we know, today’s professionals are not as driven by money and the financial benefits of their jobs as previously thought. We have spoken numerous times regarding company perks and benefits to help employee retention. But what makes the UK feel fulfilled at work?
Danielle Restivo of LinkedIn commented on the results: “Having a fulfilling job can have a big impact on overall happiness and success at work, but it appears that career satisfaction is eluding thousands of Brits.”
Job satisfaction is made up of a number of variables, including reward, relationships with co-workers, opportunities for promotion and workload. Being satisfied with our work lives is so important to us that over half of UK professionals (58 per cent) would be prepared to take a pay cut to be happier in their jobs. Three quarters of us would be open to a new job in approached by a recruiter. Clearly, money is not the be-all and end-all when it comes to workplace satisfaction.
